    More of Berlin

At the Berlin Zoologischer Garten, Germany's oldest zoo. The collection currently contains over 13,000 animals, a variety of which are indicated by the directional signs that John is standing next to. Why a reference to the Los Angeles Zoo on the sign? Who knows!

One of two Giant Pandas (Bao Bao and Yan Yan) at the zoo. Not surprisingly, this is the zoo's most popular exhibit. The nice thing is that you can get very close to the pandas here, assuming that the panda cooperates! This photo was taken from about 6 feet away.

Canadian Wolf. This one started howling as we were getting ready to leave the zoo.

Pergamon Altar at the Pergamon Museum located on Museum Island in the midst of Berlin. This is a Greek altar from about 170 BC. Obviously not allowed to touch the freises but you can walk up the steps to the exhibit area at the top. The museum has a lot of antiquities from Greece, Rome, Sumaria, etc.

Schloss Charlottenburg. This palace was built in the late 1600s as a summer residence for the wife of the elector, and later first "King in Prussia," Frederick I. There are several buildings on the grounds of the palace park in addition to the palace; just be prepared to pay to enter!

Inside the new dome of the Reichstag. The Reichstag has been recently restored to its old function as the seat of the German legislature. The new dome is transparent, containing a spiral ramp up to an observation platform at the top that offers a nice view of the city.
