For those who wonder the reasons for doing this, check out
The Internet Archive project. Being your typical
engineering-type, I want to preserve photos of myself (and eventually my ancestors) by
scanning them into the computer (first level of redundancy) and making them available
on the Web, where they'll eventually be collected by the Internet Archive (second level
of redundancy).
